imagine the blog

The Imagine blog is supported by the Imagine Group which is a network of teachers and constructors – of builders, structural planners and climate designers. The group sees itself as a merger of educational, research and planning institutions working on conceptual and experimental solutions for structural and climate-related challenges. Imagine Group’s concept is to network the knowledge base according to the tasks and challenges at hand, to provide technical solutions for esthetic and constructive issues. This type of networked collaboration without large, locally fixed hierarchies enables an interdisciplinary, yet topic-related working method that is efficient and – just as important – fun. You are welcome to enjoy our blog that will include not only our concepts, ideas, news and thoughts but will also offer inspiring topics as well as pictures for your own creative work. for more info about the imagine group and the persons behind watch:

Your chance to learn from the best in the business …
In October 2014, the Master’s program ClimaDesign at TUM will start with a new course. The program is focused on synergistic planning approaches and holistic strategies for climate-responsive and energy-efficient buildings and cities. The postgraduate master’s degree program ClimaDesign is intended to further develop the  specialization and scientific research of energy-efficient planning and construction, building climatology and architectural design quality. ClimaDesign also prepares individuals for key positions in professional practice, research and development on a national and international level. What makes it unique in its form is the interdisciplinary, the global growing network ClimaDesign as well as the practical reference to professional planners from the industry as well as renowned architects and engineers, the part time study in compact block weeks and the readapted  teaching that is based on current topics. Application period is until 31st July 2014. More Information about the master´s program at

we are often involved in architectural competitions, supporting the architects within the design team and other consultants. Normally we always publish when we win, but sometimes we also loose and dont talk about it… In this case we would like to show the design. HaasCookZemmrich based in Stuttgart contributed for the competition of the extension of the Experiementa Building in Heilbronn, a science center to allow the visitors to interact with experiments and the exhibition.

The design contains a huge 3D dome, a biosphare on the roof and cells that house smaller experiments. The whole building is closed with a wooden facade that is in some parts semi open to allow natural ventilations and create a mid temeprature climate to allow sun gains in the winter and a good ventilation in the summer to prevent overheating. Its the spacial quality and the appropriate choice of materials that made us hope to be able to realize this great design. But thats life.

We had fun doing it with the whole team and we will do it again, for better buildings, for a better climate and our small contribution for a better architecture in the future.

Team :

architecture: Studio 2050 haascookzemmrich

structural design: Schlaich Bergermann

climate design: Transsolar

landscape architecture: Atelier Dreiseitl

facade consultant: imagine envelope

The last 3 days we had a very inspiring workshop in the Aedes gallery in Berlin. Future City Lab is imagined by Thomas Auer / Transsolar and Daniel Dendra / anotherArchitect to develop and research the furture of our cities of 2050. Following the spririt ” We cant predict the future we have to design it, the future city lab becomes a network of experts, universities and students from all over the world.

Normally without a location, the future city lab settled down in the architectural gallery AEDES in Berlin converting the exhibition rooms into a workshop lab hosting several workshops with world class experts and creative students in different fields of interest.

This time the workshop was called “clothing the city” and was supported by the korean company KOLON, which is one of the biggest groups in Korea. Having the different experts from the automotive, technical textiles and fashion departments on the table the students were able to think about the future of the textile skin of our buildings and facades.

Next to the experts from Kolon, members of the imagine group Thomas Auer, Ulrich Knaack, Holger Techen and Marcel Bilow also the Korean architects from SUH architects Euhlo Suh and Kyungen Kim joined the workshop to support the students with their concepts and ideas.

We just got the news, our project in Sao Paulo in which the whole imagine group containing imagine envelope (facade), imagine structure (structure) and Transsolar (climate concept) received the Global Holcim Silver Award. Based on a concept by Urban Think Tank, we put all our effort in supporting the team. Alfredo Brillembourg and Hubert Klumpner adressed this building as a social hub in the middle of the vavelas of Sao Paulo.

We are very happy and proud to receive after the gold award for the national Holcim award in south america also the silver global award, indicating this building and its concepts as the worlds best sustainable solution.

Have a look at the project by clicking into the picture, all plans are available in high and low res.
